At West Elementary, enrichment is at the heart of our commitment to nurturing curious, confident, and engaged learners. The West PTO proudly funds and coordinates a wide range of opportunities that bring learning to life—both inside and outside the classroom. Through meaningful partnerships, hands-on experiences, and community-driven programming, we ensure every student has access to high-quality enrichment throughout the school year.
Our enrichment work is organized into three core focus areas, each led by dedicated parent volunteers who make these programs possible:
West Elementary Readers & Writers Conference (WERAWC)
Chair: Amy Batts, Co–PTO President
WERAWC is a beloved West tradition celebrating literacy, creativity, and the power of storytelling. Each year, students engage with authors, illustrators, and writing workshops that inspire a lifelong love of reading and writing. This multi-day experience encourages imagination, strengthens literacy skills, and helps students see themselves as readers, writers, and creators.
Why These Programs Matter
PTO-funded enrichment programs:
-
Expand learning beyond the standard curriculum
-
Expose students to new ideas, interests, and skills
-
Create joyful, memorable school experiences
-
Support the growth of the whole child—academically, socially, and creatively
-
Strengthen our connection as a school community
Made Possible by Our Community
These enrichment opportunities exist thanks to generous family donations, PTO fundraising, and the dedication of volunteers. Together, we ensure that every child at West Elementary benefits from inspiring, accessible, and enriching programs all year long.
